The transport issue is a sore point here on Lake Como. Here are some suggestions and options to make your stay as relaxing as possible. If you stay in one of LUXURY HOTELS you can take advantage of the PRIVATE TRANSPORT offered by the structure such as cars or private boats, which although expensive are the fastest and most stress-free means. Navigation remains the fastest way to go from one shore of the lake to the other.
But for those who should resort to DO-IT-YOURSELF, here are options and references:
The BOAT LINE connects Como to the entire shore till the north of the Lake and it crosses also the center to reach Varenna and Bellagio. The FERRY LINE crosses the center of the lake connecting Bellagio – Varenna – Cadenabbia – Menaggio in about 15 minutes with the possibility of loading cars and motorcycles on board. The LINE IS always VERY LONG, the fast ferry cannot be purchased online and does not have a very large capacity, so we suggest consulting the website below TO DOWNLOAD THE TIME TABLE and arriving at the station at least 40 minutes before.

Private cars can be useful to reach places on the same shore of the lake, to reach the first boat station if your hotel/airbnb is out of the way or for evening outings as the boats stop quite early. On the lake it is not easy to find TAXI or NCC and you cannot book in advance. Below a pair of contacts of agencies with which we have had the pleasure of working, although we always suggest asking first the managers of the restaurant, hotel or airbnb that you need to reach who may have close collaborations and more convenient prices.

RENTIG A CAR is recommended if your accommodation is far from the main ferry stations, if you want to enjoy more of the nightlife or if you want to explore less touristy routes that do not always require crossing the lake and you are not afraid of venturing onto our narrow and winding roads. Another sore point to consider is parking, which is difficult to find in the more touristy areas.

Of course, you can’t think of having a private driver for the whole holiday, but especially on THE DAY OF THE PHOTO SHOOT, regardless of whether the itinerary also includes the shooting on a boat afterwards, the idea of reaching the first shooting location with a PRIVATE BOAT makes the experience decidedly less stressful and is highly recommended. We usually recommend a cheaper boat than the one used for the shooting that has photographic needs. Pricing start from €150/200.

In recent years climate change has made it more difficult to define the seasonality of the climate. What we can tell you as locals is that from APRIL to MID-MAY sunny days alternate with gloomy days, the temperature is cool and the colors are wonderful. You will find majestic wisteria in bloom only in April. In JUNE the days get longer and this month marks a bridge between spring and summer, we can say that JULY and the first half of AUGUST represent the real Italian summer, with decidedly higher temperatures
and sunny days interrupted by short thunderstorms. We can compare SEPTEMBER to June and in recent years the days of OCTOBER seem spring-like with the warm colors of autumn.
